How much video can I stream from my account before I exceed my transfer limit? |

The amount of video you can stream without going over your monthly limit depends on the bit-rate of the files you are streaming and the exact account you have with us.
Here are a few examples that will help you get a feeling for what is possible:
Assuming you are streaming 250kbit videos and want to stay within your limit:
- With our level 1 account you can stream about 53 hours of total video
- With our level 2 account you can stream about 134 hours of total video
- With our level 3 account you can stream about 357 hours of total video
Assuming you are streaming DVD resolution 600kbit videos and want to stay within your limit:
- With our level 1 account you could stream about 22 hours of total video
- With our level 2 account you could stream about 56 hours of total video
- With our level 3 account you could stream about 148 hours of total video

If I go over my monthly data transfer limit, how much does additional data transfer cost? |

First off, our data transfer allowances are quite high. For those that primarily want to use their accounts to stream their demo clips, it is unlikely you will exceed your limit. If you are using your account to stream full length events and heavily promote your website you may want to upgrade your account or pay for additional transfer.
Additional data transfer is inexpensive! The amount you pay is between $0.003 - $0.007 per Megabyte over your allowance. The higher the "Level" plan you have with us, the lower your rate.
To calculate the cost of the Megabytes over your limit:
- $0.007 per MB with a level 1 account.
- $0.005 per MB with a level 2 account.
- $0.003 per MB with a level 3 account.
If you needed an additional 1,000MB, it goes a long way! See the approx. figures below:
- Assuming you are streaming 250kbit videos, you will stream 9 hours of additional video.
- Assuming you are streaming DVD resolution 600kbit video, you will stream 4 hours of additional video.

When I use your full length event service with my streaming account, how many events can I have online at the same time? |

The number of full length events you can have in your streaming account depend on the bitrate of your event, the length of your event, and the exact account you have with us.
Here are a few examples:
Assuming all your events are 1 hours long and are encoded at 275kbit bitrate:
- With our level 1 account you can have 3.25 events online at any given time
- With our level 2 account you can have 9.7 events online at any given time
- With our level 3 account you can have 24 events online at any given time

My web host says I can do streaming video with my account. Do I have streaming capability? |

Most likely, no.
Over 90% of the time we are asked this and look into it, we find that the web host is not operating a streaming video server. What they typically support is "progressive download". Your videos are thrown on the same web server as your web pages and images. When you view the video you are actually downloading the video. You cannot jump immediately to the end of the clip because you have not downloaded the whole clip yet.
Our streaming video accounts allow you to transmit video using RTSP-UDP and RTSP-TCP, which are communication standards that were designed strictly for streaming video and audio. When you use your web hosting account for video, you will only be able to transmit video using HTTP-TCP progressive download. HTTP-TCP P.D. was designed for web pages, not streaming video. |

Why should I use your streaming video accounts? |

Our systems allow you to stream video using RTSP-UDP/streaming, RTSP-TCP/streaming, HTTP-TCP/streaming and HTTP-TCP/progressive download. Your existing web account will only allow HTTP-TCP/Progressive download, which is usually the worst video distribution approach.

- Our streaming accounts allow you to randomly seek to any position in your video immediately. This is not possible if you use your web hosting account to show video.
- Our streaming accounts include reports of your video usage. Our reports include special "streaming" related data columns that your web host can't provide (because they don't use a real streaming server).
- Web hosts often claim to support streaming video, but they are just serving your video from their web servers! This is not "streaming" but rather what we call "progressive download". When using our streaming video accounts, you will never see the progress bar in your video player because we are offer TRUE streaming video!
- In order to accomplish"TRUE STREAMING", your video will be transmitted via our Windows Media and QuickTime streaming servers, not a web server that only supports "progressive download"!
- We manage our systems with the sole focus that we are streaming video. Aspects of performance, capacity and quality of service are based on the fact that we are operating streaming video infrastructure. Your web host is managing their systems with the assumption that their clients are primarily serving their websites. Streaming video often requires hundreds of times the resources required by website traffic, and should be managed accordingly to avoid poor performance.
- Our backbone network uses TIER 1 REDUNDANT BGP bandwidth. A simple analogy is that Stream Hoster uses the "fast" lane of the Internet. It is common for web hosts to use cheaper bandwidth because website activity does not need to be REAL TIME in nature. It is extremely important that you are using a premium quality network when streaming video.
